6 tbsp. olive oil
1 small onion, diced
1 carrot, diced
4 cups water
2 pandan leaves
1 lemongrass, minced
3 cloves of garlic, minced
3 shallots, minced
2 green chilies, chopped
1 inch ginger, minced
2 leeks, sliced 1/4 lb. fresh shiitake mushrooms
2 plum tomatoes, diced
1 lb. large shrimps with heads
3 blue crabs, cleaned and cut in half
1 1/2 doz manila clams
2 lbs sea scallops
1 cup coconut milk
2 tbsp fish sauce
Juice of 1/2 lemon
2 Chinese eggplants, cubed
5 longbeans (sitao) in 2-in. pcs
1. Rinse the black rice in cold water. Sauté the onion and carrot with 3 tbsp olive oil in a small pot over medium heat. Stir in rice, add the water and bring to a boil. Add the pandan leaves and 1 tbsp salt, reduce the heat to low, and cover. Simmer for about 20 minutes, or until the water has been absorbed and the rice is almost cooked. Transfer the rice to two claypots (palayok).
2. Sauté in 3 tbsps of olive oil the lemongrass, garlic, shallots, chilies, leeks, mushrooms, tomatoes, eggplant and longbeans in a wok or skillet over medium heat. Add the shrimps, crabs, clams, scallops, and coconut milk and stir well. Season with fish sauce and lemon juice.

The latest designer to have a hotel concept will be Moschino. The Maison Moschino will be located in Milan, Italy in the old neoclassical railway station on Viale Monte Grappa. The four-story building will hold 54 rooms and 15 suites each with its own unique look. The hotel will also have a bar, restaurant, gym and spa. Opening is planned for 2009.
London's biggest MALL!
It may not be the best time for a new shopping mall but London's getting one anyway. The new Westfield Mall which opens on Thursday will cover 43 acres of space and cost £1.7 billion to build. As the Telegraph reports the mall will have 265 shops, a 14-screen movie theater, 50 restaurants, a gym, spa, a library and 4,500 parking spaces. For the luxury-minded shopper the mall has a concierge team of 60 who speak 14 languages total. Valet parking is available as well as handsfree shopping and chauffeur service.
Although the immediate economic forecast is bleak, Westfield's executives are confident that in the long run the mall will prove to be popular. Most of the stores are rented out and it is predicted that 25 million people will visit the mall each year.It will be the largest in-town shopping and leisure destination in Europe.
a random Monday Night....
Stopped by the Nike Sportswear store on Mercer for a lil Nike boots event....counting down the final days in nyc...sigh...
then to be really nostalgic passed by one of my fav flip restaurants in NYC..Cendrillion (but It looks like it's CLOSED)
I hope it hasn't closed it's door forever..must find out ASAP!
Another great eats choice in the area is Joe's Shanghai, which has the best soup dumplings in NYC (I'm not a huge fan but I don't mind them at all). Trust me the sesame chicken is a "must-have"! Got a lil MSG headache afterwards but so worth it!

text for charity
Say CUL8R to traditional fundraising -- in an attempt to reach younger tech-obsessed generations, The Salvation Army is going to start texting for cash this holiday season. Apparently the charitable organization is aware that not only do many twenty- and thirty-somethings operate better via cell phone, many of them aren't big on carrying cash to stuff into those swinging red coffers set up alongside Santa.
Instead, those who want to contribute can send a text agreeing to a $5 charge added to their cell phone bills at the end of the month. The Salvation Army will test out the program starting in November in Ohio and expand it nationally if it's successful.
Aura
Now that's a phone. The $2,000 Motorola Aura is here, and lookalikes are bound to follow.
The Aura has the world's first circular display with 16 million colors and a 300 dpi resolution. The lens isn't just scratch resistant, it's Grade 1 62-carat sapphire crystal. The casing is stainless steel, coated with PVD coating (like on a luxury watch), and it rotates open with the help of 130 precision ball bearings.
All the usual technologies (2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, Open Source browser) are included in this sleek, attractive 47.60 x 96.87 x 18.55mm phone.
Blackberries are for assistants.
Just in time for the holidays, you can order one now to be shipped out December 4th.
